Question:
How Do You Test LEDs For Color AND Brightness?
Solution:
The LED Analyser is a color measurement system that allows fast and
automatic testing of both the color and intensity (Brightness) of Light
Emitting Diodes (LEDs) which are mounted on a printed circuit board.
Each Analyser can simultaneously measure up to 20 LEDs for Color and
Intensity. Light from the LEDs is collected by Plastic Optical Fibers
(POF) and carried to the Analyser board for measurement and analysis.
The unit has been designed for LED testing.
The result of this analysis can be read out via the parallel interface
or an RS232 serial interface. For applications with more than 20 LEDs
multiple Analysers can be used together.

This unit can be used for both
Functional testing and for In-Circuit Test (ICT) applications. We have
developed custom models Agilent 3070 and Teradyne (GenRad)
TestStations/228x test systems. The LED Analyser has also been used on
other ICT systems, such as CheckSum and Teradyne Z18XX
Series.

Advantages of the
LED Analyser:
+ The use of CMOS Image sensor technology ensures
excellent repeatability and color discrimination
+ Highly accurate representation of the LED color in different color
space i.e. RGB and HSI (Hue Saturation and Intensity).
+ Performance is not affected by LED intensity, temperature or ambient
lighting.
+ Easy installation.
+ Uses .5 mm (1mm with jacket)
plastic optic fiber (POF) which can be worked on easily using many off
the shelf tools.
+ Very suitable for applications where space is at a premium.
The LED Analyser has been used in applications such as a single LED
indicator on a control panel, 120 LEDs on an automotive switch panel,
50 LEDs on a Network hub, 20 LEDs on a SCSI disk backplane and a
multitude of applications in between.
The LED Analyser is a highly accurate, highly repeatable, adaptable,
easy to use, fast and fully automated color measurement sensor which
has found many applications in the electronics industry.
